I would like to welcome you all to this website which we have put up specially for our fellow Manileños and Filipinos.
I have taken the liberty of including all relevant information about my personal life and my career in the public service to offer you a glimpse into who Secretary Lito Atienza is, as a public servant and most of all, as a family man.
I have striven to make this different from the other website I have, which gives but a view of our work and what we do to help make our fellowmen's lives better.
This website you are visiting gives details about my family's history, my career, my humble beginnings as a poster boy for the Liberal Party during the '50s, my years as a stevedore at the docks, dancing and touring the world as a dancer
with the Bayanihan Philippines Dance Company where I met and fell in love with Beng, to whom I have been happily married for the past 40 years, my foray into
the world of politics starting out as a barangay chairman.
It will likewise include the trials I have had to undergo while fighting for my principles and my quest for a better life for our countrymen -- including my term as an opposition Assemblyman during the difficult Marcos years and subsequent
incarceration for fighting the dictatorship, my appointment as the General Manager of the National Housing Authority in 1986, and my unsuccessful first
attempt at the mayoralty in 1988.
This website also offers a journey into our very successful two terms as Manila Vice Mayor from 1992-1998, and three consecutive terms as Mayor from
1998-2007.
We have fought battles on other fronts as well, such as our fight to preserve the sancity of life and the family as President of Pro-Life Philippines.. Through all these, Beng and our six children have always stood by my side and supported
me. I could not have gone through what I did without them and the wisdom imparted to me by my parents whose faith in God and in their son moulded me into the man I am now.
It is my hope that with this website, you will get a chance to know Lito Atienza as a dedicated public servant and family man, whose only goal in life has always been to follow God's will and be of service to his fellowman.
